if we don't take the time to look back and learn from history and past mistakes, we are surely doomed to repeat them. Jon Steward gives a very good example in these Bush videos from Iraq war plea to the bailout plea. Interesting thoughts.
Then there's My friend John McCain in his own words
The daily show usually tells the truth in a funny kind of way.
Watch this clip of John McCain's acceptance speech as he borderline plagerizes Bush who used the same words from 2000.
Note to self: if this Man fools the American people into another 4yrs of McCain-Bush living and becomes president I will know that i live in the stupidest country in the world.
And my 2 cents about the media being in the tank for obama:
I find it laughable that people now say that the media is in the tank for Obama just because Ms. Palin is now openly getting vetted by the media because Mr. McCain did such a poor job of vetting her himself. Surely these same people who say this have totally forgotten what it was like when Obama first came on the scene and the continual vetting he and his family have had to endure. And when the MSM was making his name mud. How easily we forget. So this poll that says Palin is being "Mistreated", i beg to disagree. Politics is a contact sport and if you can not stand the vetting then don't play. I hope the media will finally do their job and report the true facts on both sides.
Palin has to earn her spot as for as im concerned. Hillary Clinton worked for 18 million votes and cracked the ceiling. Palin had her name pulled out of a hat and sits on a token thrown. She's no Hillary Clinton. Besides that this election will come down to what the people want, if they want 4 more years of Bushanomics they will vote for the War president and his shooting star sidekick "Saint Sarah", If they want something different they will vote for something different. So good luck with that on Nov.4-2008
In his acceptance speech McCain continually told us how he would fight for us. How he is not afraid to fight for you. John McCain used the word "fight" more than 40 times in his speech.
(oh wait a minute John McCain is 72 yrs old, he won't be doing any fighting, young men and women like my brother,
your son,your sister,they will)
. In my listening all I heard was bomb bomb bomb Iran, Russia or something! He is a risk taker, and gambling with the soul of America right now. I question his judgment.
"I make [decisions] as quickly as I can, quicker than the other fellow, if I can," Mr. McCain wrote, with his top adviser Mark Salter, in his 2002 book, Worth the Fighting For. "Often my haste is a mistake, but I live with the consequences without complaint."- John McCain
I appreciate that he was a POW, POW, POW, but that does not mean I should make him president, as fact it seems quite the opposite to me, for all i know he could be shell shocked, who knows what effect war had on him already. Several POW's have already come forward and said as much
There were several POW protesters along with the group code pink at his convention speech. One held up a sign that said John McCain doesn't care about Vets. John McCain voted against funds and relief for vets. You can check his record. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE STAGE AND HIPE THIS TIME PEOPLE check the record.
These politicians can say anything, and they will say anything for a vote. none of them are perfect, but you can see who is in this for the people and not for ambition.
One man has run on a platform of changing the way things are done and one main has run on his experience and POW stats for the past 18 months, now all of a sudden that was not working so he changed his theme now he is running on "a change" theme. John McCain will change his word to you just as fast as he has changed his theme. Whatever works to get the vote. Don't be fooled this time. Insanity is doing the same old things over and over again and expecting different result. You can not get different results from the same old thing. that is insanity.
Let us not be fooled, let us wake, and God save us from McCain/Palin ticket.
They have fooled us for the past 8yrs, shame on them, if they fool us for 4 more years, shame on us!
WAKE UP PEOPLE WE CAN NOT GO BLINDLY INTO THIS ELECTION, NOT THIS TIME!'WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO PLAY RUSSIAN RULLET WITH OUR FUTURE ANYMORE. THE SHIP IS SINKING, IT HAS BEEN FOR 8YRS NOW, AND THE REPUBLICAN CAPTIANS ARE TRYING TO TAKE US DOWN WITH THEM, THEY ARE TRYING TO DISTRACT YOU WITH THE PALIN BAND, DON'T BE FOOLED INTO ANOTHER 4 YES OF THE SAME OLD BUSH TACTICS. IT'S TIME TO GET ONBOARD A NEW SHIP. DON'T BE FOOL BY THE HIPE AMERICA WAKE UP!! PLEASE!
Republicans like to run elections on fear mongering and invoking visual fear like that disgusting 911 pandering video they used to tug at your heart and stir your fears thursday night, and the American people usually buy into it, so I hope the thought of Him provoking war and bomb bomb bombing anything he can get his hands on is scaring the hell out of you.! Enough to say Enough! and Not this time!
I'm sorry but I am fighting for my grandchildren's future. If we allow McCain in the white house this is what America will look like
by DemFromCT
Well, I watched the John McCain speech from the relative safety of my living room. It was something to see, I must say.
At times stuck up against a (White House) lawn green background reminiscent of that disastrous green jello speech, McCain was sometimes maudlin, sometimes rambling, but always, inevitably, boring. it's unfortunate, really. Set speeches are just not his thing. His strengths lie elsewhere, mostly in an artificial image of a maverick, which really means everyone who's an establishment Republican in DC now despises him even more than they used to after this convention.
Why should that be? Because McCain is openly running against them. Does that mean he's really not Bush II? Of course not. With the pick of Sarah Palin, McCain's told the world he's more conservative than anyone feared, and if he wins, he'll do everything he can to appoint Supreme Court justices in the mold of Scalia and Thomas, overturn Roe v Wade and restart the culture wars and re-fight the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, and by the sound of the speech last night any other war he can get his hands on.
He wants a base election not because he believes in it, but because he will do anything, anything, to win, including sell his soul on live television to the religious right. This is a man that puts ambition over country and over family, and it was as plain as the humorless and mean-spirited speeches throughout the convention.
But he didn't have the guts to choose Joe Lieberman, the guy he wanted, so he took the Governor of Alaska, who's made a splash, but has done nothing to prove her qualifications to stand next in line to a 72 year old who doesn't radiate health. In doing so, he's appeased the social conservatives and exposed his naked ambition. People know that. The voters understand it. The party of Lincoln can't fool all of the people all of the time.
So this man who has been a creature in and of Washington for decades, who voted with Bush 95% of the time, who supported him on Iraq and on the economy, now wants to convince the country that the problem is Republicans (yes, we know that, Senator), and so therefore the solution is - wait for it - Republicans. Riiight. That will go over well with the country. Easy sell.
What I learned, though, from watching the convention, is that we can solve all of our problems, whatever they are, by drilling and also striving for victory. Who knew? He should have told Bush that eight years ago, and maybe we wouldn't be in this mess today.
So basically, you can ignore problems and they will go away, because after all, we've been a nation of whiners up until now. And you can trust that just because the Republicans have been in charge and gotten us here, they will be the agents of change and lead us to the future because they've been so right about everything up until now.
We also learned you can party like it's 2002 with the lobbyists, but if you declare a day of Gustav service, just for show, you can fool the American public into thinking you care about our problems.
If you believe that, vote for McCain. If you don't and want to be part of the reality based world that thinks that upholding the Constitution is a necessity, and driving us into a ditch is not qualification for four more of the last eight years, and if you believe in science and stem cell research and affordable health care (which will take long, but which must happen), and restoring our place in the world, and in treating everyon with respect and dignity and not just half the country at a time, then you will say Enough! and vote for Obama rather than change-lite.
The Republicans think you're stupid enough to fall for their sales pitch again. The Democrats think you understand what real change means. In two months we'll find out who's right. But this was not a convention and not an acceptance speech that strikes fear in the hearts of Democrats everywhere. In the real world, outside the convention hall, the Republican base can't win by itself. Thank God for that.
where are the black people, where are the asians, where is the diversity? It was like watching a scary old men's club and stepford wives. I didn't see nothing in that room that looked like me, and this is what they are telling people is right for a diverse country, this exclusive club? And according to Bush, I guess I'm a part of "the angry left". Not apart of that country they say they are putting first. Oh and what is Joe L. gonna do when this election is over?
Foot note: Last election the republicans trashed a war hero John Kerry, this election they lift one up. I am choking on the double standard. The hypocrisy.
I don't think God is a conservative republican, seems like he just might be a demalibralindependent..
